The 2014 Philly Spring Cleanup took place over the weekend. A total of 14,225 volunteers, including Mayor Nutter, cleaned up and removed graffiti and litter from playgrounds and streets throughout the city, stated in a news release. This year’s cleanup efforts resulted in 1,122,880 pounds of materials from cleanup sites, city officials say, exceeding last year’s record of 1,014,540 pounds.

“I am truly impressed with the passion and dedication throughout the city to make Philadelphia a cleaner, greener and safer place,” said Mayor Nutter. “Each year we hope to expand the cleanup and I am proud to say that we did that again this year with a record number of volunteers, sites and pounds of debris removed.”
