A skull and bones were found in a wooded area in Northeast Philadelphia on Wednesday, March 10, 2010.
Several bones including a human skull were found in a wooded area along the Philadelphia-Bucks County border.
Two people were walking through the woods along the 15000 block of Roosevelt Boulevard in Northeast Philadelphia around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday when they came across the remains, Philadelphia Police said.
The two who discovered the bones were searching for deer antlers, officials said.
A skull, part of a pelvis bone and another unidentifiable bone were all found near what appeared to be part of a mattress or duffel bag, officials said.
The medical examiner believes the bones belong to a small female between the ages of 25 and 50. The woman may be of Southeast Asian or Hispanic decent.
"The skull, although it is obviously human, it's not a full size adult skull," Chief Insp. Scott Small said.
There are no signs of trauma to the skull, which still has four upper teeth, officials said.
"There are some upper teeth and hopefully the medical examiner can use those dental remains to try and identify the body," Chief Insp. Small said.
Authorities say it may take months to identify the woman.
