A Philadelphia barbershop owner is fighting for his life after a shooting in the Hunting Park section of the city.

It happened Thursday around 7:15 p.m. at the Sharp Styles Barbershop on 8th and Luzerne Street. Police say the shop's owner was locking up when he was approached by a robber who shot him in the lower back before fleeing the scene.

Detectives found a single bullet casing on the ground only a few feet from a jacket belonging to the victim as well as change on the ground that police say fell from the victim's pocket.

"It appears with the change on the sidewalk that this individual was giving up his money, emptying his pockets," said Chief Inspector Scott Small of the Philadelphia Police Department.

The victim was taken to Temple University hospital where he remained in critical condition Friday morning.

"He was quiet, humble and he just tried to help everybody," said Jose Vargas, an employee at the barbershop.

Vargas told NBC10 that his employer didn't have much money and recently began living at the barbershop that he owned for over a decade.

Police were searching for a man wearing a red hoodie. They also interviewed a man but did not name him as a suspect.
