Woman Trips, Dies on SEPTA Tracks

    The woman fell onto the "third rail" which is used to power trains.

    A woman was electrocuted when she fell onto the tracks and into a power line at the Broad and Girard SEPTA station Sunday afternoon.

    The incident happened around 12:50 p.m. on the northbound side of the Broad Street Line, according to SEPTA.

    Witnesses said the woman, Selena M. Petty, 32, stumbling along the platform, appeared to trip and fell onto the tracks. She hit the third rail and was killed instantly, according to police.

    Service was temporarily disrupted on the Broad Street line for about 90 minutes, according to SEPTA. Transit police and the Philadelphia medical examiner are investigating the death.
