Duane Crump, 23, accused of intentionally running over Kamilah El-Amin who was eight weeks pregnant, according to Philadelphia police.
A man accused of intentionally driving over a woman multiple times in South Philadelphia, killing her and her unborn child, turned himself in to Philadelphia police Friday.
Duane Crump, 23, -- who was with his lawyer -- surrendered to a sergeant at the 12th District police station Friday afternoon.
Crump is accused of driving into Kamilah El-Amin, 22, then backing over her early Saturday morning outside of a club. She died on Monday.
“We believe it was an intentional act as far as why, we’re not sure why he did it the only thing we’re sure of is that it’s an intentional act,” said Philadelphia Homicide Captain James Clark.
Duane Crump appeared before a municipal judge on Thursday and was charged with aggravated assault and a DUI after intentionally driving El-Amin and was released on bail. But El-Amin died on Monday and police increased the charges to murder.
Investigators said around 2 a.m. Saturday morning El-Amin was leaving the Point Breeze club in South Philadelphia with friends when her group exchanged words with Crump’s crowd for unknown reasons. Police said Crump then backed into the women.
Crump's lawyer said the whole thing was an accident.
“It is extremely sad, a woman a mother of two was out with friends having fun at a bar and she comes out of the bar and whatever transpires it should not have led to this,” said Captain Clark.
Police said Crump and El-Amin did not know each other.
