Upper Darby police are looking for a man who they say almost killed his girlfriend over beer money.

On January 30, police say Kevin Knapp, 38, started arguing with his girlfriend after she refused to give him money to purchase beer. Michael Chitwood, Upper Darby Police Superintendent, said the victim was afraid to give Knapp money because he becomes violent when drinking.

The argument quickly escalated to violence after investigators say Knapp’s girlfriend tried to stop him from taking $300 from her dresser. Knapp then “choked her to the point where she became unconscious,” Chitwood said.

Knapp later allegedly attempted to suffocate her with a pillow and viciously beat her.

The 40-year-old old mother of three was taken to Delaware County Memorial Hospital.  Chitwood says the three children were in the house but did not witness the beating.

Police are asking anyone with information on Knapp's whereabouts to call 610-734-7677.
