Summer Storm Rips Through Region

A summer storm brought thunder, lightning and heavy rains to the region Saturday morning. Powerful winds uprooted trees, appliances and damaged cars. Check out the aftermath here.

The Browns Mills United Methodist Church is cancelling services on Sunday, June 25. The roads adjacent to the church are closed due to down trees. Also, the church lost power.

The summer storm pounded residences and businesses throughout the region. At a Rite Aid pharmacy in Delaware, heavy receptacles toppled over.

Around 6:50 a.m., Ladder 17 was alerted to assist Holloway Terrace and area companies on a commercial gas leak at the Rite Aid on New Castle Avenue in Delaware.

Fire officials found that portions of the roof and ceiling has been damaged as a result of the storm.

Air conditioning units and other electrical appliances were torn off the roof.

The air conditioning units dislodged from their foundations on the roof caused gas leaks, and fences and other objects on the ground were overturned and several trees were uprooted or damaged.

Staff and members from Philadelphia Cricket Club were evacuated after water levels rose in the Wissahickon. West Valley Green Road was shut down as fallen trees blocked foot trails.
