Phils Beat Yanks in the Bronx

Relive the thrilling, extra-inning win by the Phils over the Yankees. Carlos Ruiz was the hero knocking an RBI double in the 11th inning to drive home the winning run Sunday against the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. Ruiz also flashed some great leather -- blocking the plate to keep Johnny Damon from scoring. Yankees ace CC Sabathia toed the rubber for the series finale. The Phils countered with an ace of their own -- Cole Hamels took the hill. Shane Victorino continued his domination of Sabathia by knocking three hits including an RBI single to put the Phils up 2-0. Damon got his revenge in the third when he put the Yanks on the board with an RBI double. Raaaauuuuul Ibanez kept his hot bat going with an RBI double in the sixth inning that put the Phils up 3-1. But Yankees slugger Mark Teixeira answered by knocking a home run despite breaking his bat in half in the sixth inning. Alex Rodriguez wasn't as lucky. Cole Hamels struck out A-Rod three times. A-Rod has started slow batting only .189 after his 0-4 afternoon. Sabathia labored through eight innings on a muggy afternoon at Yankee Stadium. After the game was tied in the bottom of the ninth the Yankees called on Mariano Rivera to keep it that way -- the shutdown closer threw a scoreless inning. Clay Condrey pitched two scoreless innings to get the win after shutting down the Yankees high-powered offense. Chase Utley didn't start the game but he sure finished it scoring the winning run in the top of the 11th inning. Chase Utley celebrated the big win. Ryan Howard celebrated the big win with Victorino. Howard had plenty of reason to smile -- the Phils won the series 2-1.
