Philadelphia police have launched a citywide search for the driver of a silver Lexus in connection with a hit-and-run that injured a police officer Saturday morning. Police are offering a $3,500 to anyone with information on the driver of the car.
Officer Samuel Rivera was treated at Thomas Jefferson hospital for minor injuries and later released.
Officials said Rivera, who was on a bicycle, stopped the driver near 3rd and Lombard streets shortly after 2 a.m. Saturday in an investigation of a possible case of driving under the influence.
Police sources said Rivera asked the driver to not block a crosswalk. One witness told investigators he was shocked when the driver intentionally swerved into the officer. They say the male driver suddenly took off westbound on Fitzwater Street.
