A pizza delivery man was found shot to death after his car crashed in Newark, the latest in a spate of violent incidents that have plagued the city in recent days.

Officers found 20-year-old Jesus Torres in his vehicle when they responded to a crash at 13th Avenue and South 11th Street around 9:30 p.m. Sunday. Officers found the vehicle had hit a fence and Torres had been shot.

Torres was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

It was not clear what sparked the shooting or where it occurred. No arrests have been made.

Torres' death marks the eighth killing in a little over a week in Newark. Police officials have said many of the people involved in the incidents have been linked to drug or gang activity, and it does not appear that any of the incidents were related.

The violence began Monday night, when a domestic dispute resulted in a double shooting that took the life of a 20-year-old woman. A 19-year-old city man was gunned down early Tuesday, and a 37-year-old East Orange man was shot and killed Tuesday afternoon.

Two brothers were then shot to death Friday morning, and a 15-year-old boy was shot and wounded that night. On Saturday, a 24-year-old woman was stabbed to death in an attack that left another woman injured, and a 43-year-old man was shot multiple times inside a city home.

On Sunday morning, a 39-year-old Irvington man was shot and wounded in a taxi outside a hospital.

There have been 57 homicides in Newark so far this year, the same number recorded at this time in 2012.
