Accused Purse Snatcher to Stand Trial on Charges That He Robbed Elderly Woman

Antonio Santiago accused in Easter Sunday attack

The man accused of snatching an elderly woman's purse on Easter Sunday will go to trial on charges including aggravated assault, robbery, theft and reckless endangerment, according to court records.

The case against Antonio Santiago, 29, was held for court Thursday.

The Bridesburg man was arrested about a week after he allegedly attacked a 94-year-old woman as she walked home from Bells Corner Supermarket on the 8300 block of Loretto Avenue.

Surveillance cameras allegedly caught Santiago following the woman while she was walking home April 8. The video showed a man grabbing the woman's pocketbook, throwing her to the ground in the process, before fleeing the scene.

The woman suffered a broken arm and multiple cuts and bruises, police said.

Santiago, according to court records, has a history of robbery accusations including pleading guilty to robbery in 2006.

He remains behind bars on $200,000 bail. He is set to be arraigned on the charges July 5.
