Storm Sludge Causes Crashes on NJ Highway

A dump truck carrying sludge caused a number of accidents on a South Jersey highway after the waste spilled all over the roadway.

The truck, carrying storm cleanup waste, lost the load along the Garden State Parkway southbound between mile marker 38 and 39 in Egg Harbor Township, N.J. around noon on Friday, New Jersey State Police said.

The sludge covered the roadway and caused slick conditions for drivers, officials said.

State police said there were a number of accidents that resulted in drivers and passengers suffering minor injuries.

Fire crews were called out to the scene to wash off the roadway.

One lane remained closed for some time as crews cleaned the road.
