Multiple People Shot During Violent Summer Night in Philadelphia

Multiple people were shot throughout Philadelphia Saturday night into early Sunday morning, police said, marking another violent weekend for a city struggling to combat gun violence.

Three people were shot around 9:26 p.m. in Southwest Philadelphia at McCreesh Playground and Skatepark near 66th and Regent streets. Two of victims, both men, were between the ages of 18 and 20 years old. They were all taken to nearby hospitals, police said.

A third victim, a man in his early 20s, was shot in the back of his head. He remained in critical condition, according to police.

No arrests were made and no weapons were recovered.

Across the city on Henry Avenue in East Falls, just 5 minutes after the triple shooting, a 25-year-old man was shot several times throughout his body. He was also taken to a nearby hospital, where he was listed in critical but stable condition.

No arrests were made.

The violence continued into the predawn hours on Sunday, when a man in a car was shot on the 3600 block of Ford Road in Wynnefield Heights around 1:30 a.m. He was taken to Einstein Medical Center, where he died less than an hour later. Police also did not immediately make an arrest in that shooting.

The Philadelphia shootings come less than a week after mass shootings erupted throughout other parts of the county, killing dozens of people in California, Texas and Ohio.

Earlier in the day, New Haven, Connecticut, police arrested a man accused of making a violent threats against a Puerto Rican festival.
