Ex-Councilman, 71, Steals $500K From Parents

Prosecutors said the former West Chester councilman used "multiple schemes'' to steal from his elderly parents

A former suburban Philadelphia councilman has been convicted of stealing $500,000 from his elderly parents.

A Chester County jury on Monday convicted 71-year-old Boyd Davis. Jr. of West Chester of more than 80 counts of theft, forgery, receiving stolen property and dealing in unlawful proceeds.

Prosecutors said the former West Chester councilman used "multiple schemes'' to steal the money from the estates of Boyd Davis Sr. and Nelda Wynn Davis, primarily in 2006 and 2007.

His family ran a oil and gas station business in Chester County.

Davis' father died in 2007 at the age of 91, and his mother died in 2010 at the age of 96.

Davis testified that his parents knew he was spending the money, according to the Daily Local. According to the newspaper, a psychologist testified that he examined Davis' father in the year before his death, and found Davis, Sr. was suffering from dementia.

Defense attorney Evan Kelly vowed to appeal, adding that the issues involved whether his parents objected to use of the money and whether he acted with criminal intent.
