The 12-year-old boy was building a sand tunnel with his younger brother at a Long Branch beach when it collapsed just after 3:00 p.m. Tuesday. The boys' mother called 911 to report her son was buried in the sand.
Officials say the 12-year-old boy is from Ocean Township, NJ.
After emergency workers dug the boy out, he was rushed to the hospital.
Long Branch Police confirm to NBC10 that the boy was pronounced dead at 1:34 p.m. Wednesday.
His name has not been released.
