Teens Arrested for Pelting Buses With Rocks: Cops

The boys allegeldy shattered the windshields of 2 buses

Two teenagers were arrested Friday after allegedly throwing rocks at school buses packed with kids.

Keenan Kohler, 18, of Wenonah and an unnamed boy were caught Friday and now face multiple charges for allegedly throwing hard objects at two different school buses, according to Deptford Township Police.

Thankfully in both cases the students in board weren't hurt.

In both cases, the windshield was cracked and flung glass at the driver, potentially causing an accident. Fortunately, both drivers were able to stay composed and pull over.

"It was a loud crack and a pop and it was scary" said Sue Tomlinson, who was driving the second bus that was hit along Good Intent Road around 3:15 p.m., according to cops.

Tomlinson was able to use her radio to alert another bus driver behind her, who quickly wrote down the license plate of the car, police said.

It didn't take long for Deptford Police to react.

"We immediately dispatched everybody down to this area and we were concerned that somebody was going around and shooting at a school bus," said Detective Sgt. George Johnson. "Turns out it wasn't. What they were doing was one was hanging out the window throwing rocks -- these sort of large rocks -- and were hitting the windshield."

A short while later, an officer from the Westville Borough spotted the car that matched the description and tag number and alerted Deptford Police, who arrested the two teens.

An underage provisional driver was driving the car, cops said. Both boys are charged with reckless endangerment, aggravated assault, and criminal mischief.

Neither boy attends schools in the district, police said. Both boys were released -- with the underage boy being picked up by his parents, according to authorities.

No one on the bus was hurt, but the police are taking the case very seriously.

"Somebody driving around throwing any kind of object at a school bus is extremely dangerous," said Johnson.
