The U.S. Postal Service plans to shut down a South Jersey distribution center in February, they said. The closure could possibly put 650 people out of work in a county that's also set to lose 400 jobs at a refinery.

The postal center in Logan Township distributes Priority Mail.

Gloucester County freeholder board director Stephen Sweeney, who also is a state senator, said he has asked U.S. Rep. Rob Andrews to look into whether the closing is justified.

Sunoco's Eagle Point Refinery in West Deptford announced this week that it would shut down within six weeks.

Meanwhile, the county's economic development office was trying to help the more than 1,000 workers who are losing their jobs to file unemployment claims and prepare for new careers.
