Cars Hit Pa. Home 5 Times in 18 Months

Couple claims their 1700s home has been hit at least 5 times by out-of-control cars

A Northampton County family was cleaning up again after a car hit their antique home for the fifth time since the start of 2011.

The latest crash happened Tuesday morning at Sonya and Wade Schenewolf’s Bushkill Drive home in Forks Township.

"I was in the house when I heard the impact," Sonya Schenewolf told Palmer-Forks Patch. "I was in my pajamas and getting ready to go to the bathroom. I had just woken up."

An out-of-control SUV careened off the 2700 block of Bushkill Drive and into the Schenewolf’s garage -- crushing Sonya’s Chevy Malibu, reported the Patch.com.

"There was no screeching," Sonya told Patch. "I said 'Oh, My God' and rushed downstairs. The guy was hurt. A passer-by had stopped to help. I called 911."

The driver suffered a broken collarbone.

Sonya tells NBC10 that the front porch of their home, which dates from 1790, was struck in December and March and other parts of the house were hit two other times. The Schenewolfs believe speed and weather could cause drivers to lose control at the curve in the road.

"The accidents always seem to happen in the rain," she said. "This is a hard turn. The speed limit is 30 mph. I can't imagine how fast he was going to lose control, go airborne and cause as much damage as he did."

Wade was working to clean up the wreckage.

"What a mess," he said. "I have a full couple of days ahead of me. But what are you gonna do. It happens."

NBC10 has a in Forks Township trying to get answers about what is being done about the dangerous turn.
