Raincoats & Rally Rags in South Philly

Game 3 will be wet, but probably not a washout

The fate of Game 3 of the World Series lies in the hands of Mother Nature and Major League Baseball.

Heavy rain and gusty wind will be pounding the are up to around the 8 p.m. game time dropping up to two inches of rain.

The question remains about the exact time the rain will end and whether that, combined with the league's judgment, will allow the game to be played on time.

The rain is ahead of a front that will move through the area about 8:00 pm on Saturday, with the rain threat ending between 9:00 - 10:00 pm. As the front moves through the rain will end and the wind speed will diminish as the direction will change to a west wind.

The rain will also be accompanied by warmer weather Saturday. Highs will be above 60 degrees Saturday afternoon and not drop much into the night.

The south wind at the start of the game will blow straight out to center field from home plate. As the wind shifts to out of the west, it will blow across from left field to right filed.

As reported by Tom Singer and MLB.com: "The game, if played in rain could have a profound effect. Veteran left-hander Jamie Moyer, 45, is a pitcher who relies heavily on the feel and location of his change up to be effective. Rays starter Matt Garza, 24, who pitched in Minnesota before being traded to Tampa last winter, has made 29 of his 54 career starts indoors and did not pitch in rain a single time in 15 road starts this season."

The last time a World Series game that was postponed was Game 4 in 2006.

If Saturday's game is rained out then games 3, 4, and 5 would be played Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday respectively. There would no longer be an off day Tuesday as game 6 would be played on Wednesday in Tampa Bay.
