Bulldog Blog: Owls' Brooks Goes From LM to March Madness

High school blogger Brady McHale brings the inside story from Lower Merion High School.

A Lower Merion alum will be taking the court this week as March Madness takes over the country.

When the Temple Owls take the court on Friday afternoon so will a former Lower Merion star, Ryan Brooks.

Brooks, a senior guard who hails from right here in Narberth, Pa., once dominated the hardwood for LM and now he’s attempting to do just that at Temple. Brooks in one of the Owls leaders averaging 14.3 points a game and earlier this year scoring his 1,000th point with the squad.

Likely his biggest accomplishments, though, is what is happening now as Temple heads into the NCAA tourney.

In his days at Lower Merion Brooks helped the Aces to win the state championship. And this year he helped lead Temple to a third-straight A-10 championship.

“He is a great young adult who we are very proud of here at Lower Merion, ” said former coach Gregg Downer who still runs the show at LM.

Brooks’ current coach, Fran Dunphy couldn’t agree more.

Brooks could play a key role in Friday’s matchup with No.12 Cornell in the opening round. Some of Ryan’s coaches from Lower Merion are making the trek to Jacksonville, Fla. to see him play.
