Police in Pennsylvania have issued a tongue-in-cheek news release requesting a hit-and-run driver turn themselves in — offering to return truck parts that fell off the driver's vehicle during a series of collisions.
"Free Ford Truck Parts," says the release from Locust Township Police in Columbia County.
Police say the driver took out five mailboxes and a 40 mph speed-limit sign near the area of Center School Road and Middle Road late Saturday or early Sunday. The Press Enterprise reports police said in their release that they are "confident" the driver was driving while impaired or sleep deprived.
Police offered to return a number of broken truck parts found at the scene of the crashes. Police also say they are thankful no one was injured and are asking the driver to consider the consequences of their actions.
"In all seriousness; We are thankful that no one got hurt, including yourself," police said. "But what if???? What if that would have been a large tree or a utility pole, a disabled vehicle with someone changing a tire or waiting for a ride, A resident who is awake at that time and went out to pick up their newspaper.
"The outcome could be tragically different at this time, you or someone else could be laying in a hospital bed or worse, in a morgue or at a funeral home while families and friends are grieving. We have come in contact with many people who say, not me, I can handle it, I'm fine to drive home, and so on, this time you were lucky."
