Shots Fired at Playground Leave One Dead and Another Wounded

The coroner has identified a man fatally shot near an eastern Pennsylvania playground, an event which scattered children who weren't otherwise harmed.

The Lehigh County coroner says 39-year-old Carmelo Narvaez was killed by gunfire Wednesday afternoon in Allentown. An autopsy later Thursday will determine the exact type of wounds he suffered.

Allentown police responded and found the man dead shortly after 4:30 p.m. Another man, who is 23 years old, was wounded in his leg and upper back.

Police Chief Keith Morris says police are also investigating a report that a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle about the time of the shooting, but police wouldn't immediately confirm the two incidents were related.

Police continued investigating Thursday.
