Gunfire Outside Philly Jewelry Store Leads to Standoff

Gunfire rang out midday Monday in front of a North Philadelphia jewelry store leaving a man shot five times.

Philadelphia Police rushed the shooting victim from the scene near Mine Jewelry and Perfume along Old York Road just south of Conlyn Street in the Ogontz section of the city shortly before noon, said police.

Doctors at nearby Einstein Hospital treated the 29-year-old victim in critical condition with wounds to his neck, chest, stomach and buttocks. It wasn't immediately clear if nearby the jewelry store had anything to do with the incident and police said the victim wouldn't cooperate with investigators.

SWAT officers responded to a standoff on nearby Conlyn Street at Broad Street after the shooting. After about an hour, police took three men from the home and identified one of the men as the suspected shooter.

Investigators didn’t believe the shooting had anything to do with a pair of deadly shootings Sunday in the Cedarbrook section of the city that left two men dead – including one that had just spoken with a political candidate – that appeared to be gang-related.
