If you plan to travel along Route 1 in central New Jersey this weekend prepare to use alternate routes since a section of the roadway will be closed in both directions.
The railroad crossing will be replaced in Edison.
The work will close Route 1 north of Forest Haven Boulevard and south of Prince Street from 9 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday.
Motorists will need to use Woodbridge Avenue, Route 27 and side streets to avoid the area. The detour is expected to increase traffic on Interstate 287 in both directions.
The project will be postponed until next week if it rains.
