Boys Find $100 Bills, Turn in the Cash

Two boys didn’t keep thousands of dollars they found along a New Jersey street.

The kids called police after they found a large number of $100 bills while walking with their grandmother outside the Boiling Springs Bank in Ridgewood, N.J. on Thursday.

Ridgewood is about 20 miles from New York City.

Police Sgt. Peter Bolten tells The Record newspaper the bills apparently were dropped, perhaps by someone who had just come out of the bank. Some of the cash was on a sewer grate while other bills had fallen through it.

“They are honest kids and figured that someone might need it more than them,” Bolten told the paper.

Bolten says a large amount of money was recovered. Police are not saying how much because they expect the person who lost it would be able to say in order to claim it.

The children's parents asked police to withhold their names.
