Half-Naked Man Attacks Nova Student in Off-Campus Apartment: Source

Woman tells police a man wearing no pants burst into her bedroom & tried to sexually assault her

A woman says she was attacked and nearly sexually assaulted by a half-naked man after she answered a knock on her bedroom door inside her Bryn Mawr apartment.

Radnor Township Police say they responded to the woman’s apartment along the 200 block of Landover Road around 3:25 a.m. Saturday.

The woman, a Villanova student in her 20's who lived off-campus about two miles from the school, told police she was still awake when she heard a knock on her interior bedroom door. She answered believing it was her roommate, instead a black man with no pants or underwear, wearing a gray T-shirt with piece of red clothing covering his face burst into her room, according to a press release from Radnor police.

The man allegedly pushed the woman to the ground as she fought back and began screaming. After a short while the man -- with no pants and no shoes on his feet -- ran out of the home and towards the Wawa at 201 Bryn Mawr Avenue, according to police.

Police canvased the area with K-9 units after the reported attack but came up empty.

Police said the student suffered minor injuries but is still emotionally upset. They also say she was unable to described the man's face since it was covered.

Police praised the student for her courage during a press conference at 4 p.m.

"She fought him off and she made lots of noise trying to bring attention to the situation," said Lieutenant Christopher Flanagan of the Radnor Township Police Department. "Thus making that person, whatever his thought process was, evacuate the area."

Neighbors of the victim reacted to the news.

"It's unsettling," said Meredith Plenn of Bryn Mawr. "Living in this area you have a false sense of feeling safe here."

"They just moved in this week so it's sad," said Heather Triolo of Bryn Mawr. "A horrible way to start the year. I feel really bad for the girls."

Anyone with information on this case should contact Radnor Police investigators at 610-688-0503.
