Sex Offender Used Facebook to Meet Boy, 14: Police

Police in western Pennsylvania say a registered sex offender used fake Facebook names to meet a 14-year-old boy for sex.

Joseph Rodney Thomas has been jailed in Allegheny County on charges including involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, statutory sexual assault and indecent assault.

Police say the 41-year-old from Greene County used the aliases "Austin Thompson" and "Jay Thompson" and promised the boy marijuana and alcohol in exchange for sex.

Police say they met about six times, including at a park in Elizabeth.

Thomas was required to register as a sex offender under the state's Megan's Law statute after convictions in 1998 and 2000 on charges of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse.

Online court records don't list an attorney for Thomas, who faces a preliminary hearing Nov. 17.
