New Jersey Mom Goes on Trial for Son's Killing Decades Later

Nearly 25 years after a young boy disappeared in New Jersey, his mother is going on trial for his murder.

Opening statements in the trial of Michelle Lodzinski are set for Thursday in New Brunswick.

Lodzinski was arrested in 2014 in Florida, where she was living.

She'd long been a suspect in the disappearance of 5-year-old Timothy Wiltsey but claimed he disappeared while they were at a carnival in Sayreville in May 1991. His remains were found the following year in Edison, several miles away.

Lodzinski later changed her story, claiming he was kidnapped from the carnival.

Prosecutors are expected to present witnesses who'll testify a blanket found near Timothy's body came from Lodzinski's apartment.

Lodzinski's lawyer has said the state has no direct evidence tying his client to the crime.

The trial is expected to take several weeks.
