Lawsuit Filed Against Philly Restaurant Where Lawyers Were Sickened

A lawsuit has been filed against a Philadelphia restaurant where nearly 100 attorneys and law students were sickened in February.

Lawyer Samantha Green filed the suit against Joy Tsin Lau on Monday, citing a "sordid history of health code violations and food-borne illness."

Philly.com reports the restaurant was cited two weeks before the Feb. 27 banquet for management practices that fostered unacceptable public health conditions.

The lawsuit says Green was in agonizing pain from her illness and could only eat bananas and drink tea for four days.

The restaurant declined comment to Philly.com.

The city sued and sought a cease and desist order in May, calling Joy Tsin Lau a "public health nuisance."

A July 6 hearing was canceled. The city says a recent inspection found closure wasn't warranted.
