Officers were on patrol in the area when they heard multiple gunshots coming from the intersection, Philadelphia police chief inspector Scott Small told NBC10.

Over 40 spent shell casings were found on the scene from several different guns, he said.

The man in his early twenties was taken to a nearby hospital by officers where he was pronounced dead just after 7 p.m.

The other victim was also taken to a nearby hospital by responding officers where he is listed in stable condition with a gunshot wound to his hand.

Small told reporters that two cars allegedly pulled up to the scene ahead of the shooting and at least three people got out and began to open fire.

The victim who later died was chased on the sidewalk before one shooter stood over him while he was laying on the sidewalk, according to Small.

Skyforce10 was over the scene shortly after the shooting on Tuesday night. Police could be seen investigating.

The area was blocked off with police tape as at least one ambulance and a cop car were nearby.

Small told reporters that two parked cars at the scene were hit by stray gunfire and the corner store was also hit multiple times.

From what could be seen from Skyforce10, a glass door to the store on the corner appeared to be broken and on the ground.

Investigators are reviewing several cameras in the area including the store's surveillance cameras and nearby private cameras for more information.

Small said that several customers and employees were in the store at the time of the shooting. No one inside was injured, but the man in his mid-twenties who was shot in the hand was an employee. He was standing outside when the incident happened.

As of Monday night, 346 people had been murdered in Philadelphia in 2023, according to Philadelphia Police Department statistics. This represents a 20% decrease since this time last year, officials note.
