Delaware public health officials are confirming the state's first care case of influenza for this year's flu season.
Officials said Wednesday that laboratory tests confirmed that a Wilmington woman, between 30 and 40 years old, had been stricken with a strain of influenza A, one of two types of the flu virus responsible for seasonal flu outbreaks.
Official said the woman is not hospitalized and did not receive a flu vaccination.
Public health officials are encouraging Delawareans more than six months old to get a flu shot. They say vaccinations are particularly important for pregnant women, senior citizens, people with chronic health conditions and caregivers for young children.
