Missing Woman's Body Found in Juniata Park

Investigators say the 22-year-old woman died of multiple gunshot wounds

The body of a 22-year-old woman who was reported missing a week ago was found in the Juniata section of the city.

Police say the victim is Melanie Colon. Investigators say she died of multiple gunshot wounds.

Investigators say someone discovered Colon's badly decomposed body in a wooded area behind the Maple Lane Apartment complex on the 700 block of Maple Lane shortly before 6 a.m Saturday morning.

Colon's mother, Zoraida Miranda, said Melanie is the mother of a 4-year-old son.

"On Mother's Day I am cheated and my grandson is cheated out of his mother forever. I never thought this would happen to me but this did happen to me."

Colon was reported missing last week along with Reynaldo Torres, according to police.

Authorities say the couple was last seen on May 8 at 6 p.m. in the 2400 block of North Reese Street getting inside a 1983 gold Mazda with a black hood. The vehicle was later found unoccupied on the 100 block of West Rockland Street, according to police.

Family members say Torres is a mechanic and the father of two daughters, ages 19 and 13. Torres' sister, Melissa Ruiz, says she has no idea if her brother is alive or dead.

"Just because we can't find him and he's not here doesn't mean he's a murderer or has something to do with it."

Colon and Torres were not romantically involved, according to family members.

Police say Torres remains a missing person.
