Autopsy to Be Performed on Baby Boy Found Dead at Delaware Home Day Care

Health officials will perform an autopsy to determine what took the life of a baby boy at a Delaware home day care Wednesday.

The 10-month-old, who has yet to be identified by police, was found unresponsive after an afternoon nap at Handy’s Little Disciples day care along the 28000 block of Laton Davis Road in Millsboro, Delaware, police said.

"The baby had stopped breathing," Bolarius Handy, husband of the day care's owner, told NBC10 on Thursday.

Employees called 911 and the baby was rushed to a hospital in nearby Lewes, Del. where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Handy called the death a tragedy. "Nobody did nothing, ya know, just she went to wake the baby up and [he] wasn't responsive," he said.

Police said there were no signs of injuries or trauma to the child. The state medical examiner will perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death. There's no timetable when those results may be released.

The home day care has been licensed by the state since 1998, records show. That license will now will suspended pending the outcome of the investigation into the baby's death. Officials said that's standard procedure.

NBC10 did reach out to the boy's family members, but have yet to hear back.
