Wounded Police Dog Leaves Hospital

A police K-9 dog named "Shooter" who was shot and wounded during a police pursuit last week was released from a veterinary hospital.

Township Police say Shooter was released on Tuesday and will continue his recuperation at an undisclosed location.

Last Thursday, Shooter and other Atlantic City police officers were trying to track down Donald Capriotti, of Egg Harbor Township, who was wanted on outstanding warrants.

Capriotti was indicted back in June on 23 charges-- including possessing cocaine, heroin and marijuana with the intent to distribute. Authorities say he was also charged with second-degree weapons offenses and also has a prior manslaughter conviction.

After Capriotti's car was found off Route 40 in Egg Harbor Township, police began searching for him. Around 2:30, police tracked him down at a beach along the back bay in West Atlantic City.

Officials have released few details on exactly what happened next but say that both Shooter and Capriotti were shot during a confrontation.

Capriotti was taken to the hospital where he is in critical condition. While police confirmed that Shooter was released, they did not reveal further details on how seriously he was injured.
