Stolen School Bus Crashes, Driver Runs Off

Police on the search for apparent joyrider

Someone stole a school bus and took it on an apparent joyride overnight Tuesday into Wednesday, according to Philadelphia Police.

It was the second school bus theft this week in the city.

It was unclear when the bus was stolen. Police were alerted to the theft around 1:40 a.m. after the bus crashed into a car at 68th Street and Buist Avenue in the Elmwood section of Southwest Philadelphia.

When police arrived on the scene the driver was gone, authorities said.

Police say they believe the bus was taken from a bus yard about a mile away on the 6800 block of Norwitch Drive.

There were no reports of injuries.

The alleged thief fled the scene. Police continued the search for him or her Wednesday morning.

On Monday three teens allegedly stole a school bus in the Kensington section of the city, according to cops.
