SEPTA has officially begun operating a new bus route that will connect various neighborhoods to University City.

Route 49 began running Sunday and is meant to help people who commute to and from University City for work. It will make connections in University City, Brewerytown, Fairmount, Strawberry Mansion and Grays Ferry.

"The Route 49 will provide an important connection between these communities and the growing number of jobs and health resources in University City," SEPTA Board Chairman Pasquale T. Deon Sr. said in a statement.

The route will run daily from 5 a.m. to midnight. It will make stops every 15 minutes at "peak" weekday times, every 20 minutes midday and every 30 minutes in the evening, SEPTA said.

The agency expects to average 3,000 riders during weekdays after the first year of service.

A full map and schedule of the route is available here.
