More than a dozen Pennsylvania State Police investigators shut down a portion of Interstate 95 Thursday as they walked on the roadway apparently looking for evidence in connection to a reported shooting that sent two people to the hospital.

A shooting allegedly occurred in the area of the highway Wednesday night.

A 24-year-old man and 25-year-old woman showed up Wednesday night to Temple University Hospital's Episcopal Campus with gunshot wounds to the legs and told officers someone shot up their SUV on I-95 northbound, near Allegheny Avenue, police said. According to authorities, though, they never called 911 right after the shooting.

The man was driving the SUV and the woman was sitting in the rear driver's side when someone pulled up alongside them in a second, dark-colored SUV and opened fire around 9:45 p.m., Philadelphia Police Department Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

After arriving at the hospital - located about two miles from where the alleged shooting occurred - a third person who was in the vehicle but uninjured by the gunfire drove the bullet-riddled SUV away, but police later pulled the vehicle over when they noticed five bullet holes on the driver's side, Small said.

Police interviewed the man and the woman to try to gather more information about why someone would have shot them, the chief inspector said. Investigators say the victims were involved in an argument with the suspect in the city which continued onto I-95 prior to the shooting.

"They had some sort of prior interaction," Pennsylvania State Police Lt. Joseph Altieri said. "Prior to this."
