Driver Hits Pedestrian, Drives Into River

Police say he was driving at a high speed when his car hit the water.

A driver and his car ended up in the Delaware River early Friday, according to police.

Police say that around 2:48 a.m. the driver was exiting I-95 at Columbus Boulevard in South Philadelphia when he landed in the Delaware.

According to authorities, he was driving at a high speed, continued across the street, hit a pedestrian and didn’t stop until he hit the water.

Officials say a fence prevented the vehicle from being totally submerged in the river.

The driver managed to escape from the car, he and the pedestrian were taken to the hospital.

Authorities report the driver was not seriously injured, but the pedestrian is in critical condition.

There is no word on charges against the driver at this time.
