Man Shot, Killed on Porch

A man was shot and killed on a porch overnight.

Police were called to the 1000 block of Beverly Lane in Chester, Pa. around 12:35 a.m. for reports of shots fired.

Chester Police officers arrived to find a man yelling for help and waving towards a front porch. The officers found a 31-year-old man shot in the chest, according to police.

The man died before paramedics could arrive on the scene, police said.

The man’s won’t be identified until his family is notified, according to police.

This was the seventh homicide this year in the city and the police department is working to curb gun violence in the city of around 34,000 residents.

Violent crime has long been a problem in Chester. Last year 23 people were killed in the city compared to seven in the rest of Delaware County, according to state police statistics.
