Canoes Capsize, Man Dies

The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission says a man's body has been recovered from a lake in the Poconos after he was in one of two canoes that capsized there over the weekend.

Twenty-four-year-old Ben Culton, of Harleysville, drowned.

He was one of seven people in two canoes that set out from Seeley's Landing on the Pike County side of Lake Wallenpaupack sometime before midnight Friday.

After the other six people swam to safety, emergency crews began searching for Culton. They were unable to find his body on Saturday, and resumed the search in daylight Sunday, finding his body about 1 p.m.

Fish commission spokesman Eric Levis says two of the other canoeists were treated for hypothermia at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale.

The agency is investigating the incident.
