2 Women Dead in Overnight Accident

Delaware State Police say two Newark women have died after the car they were traveling in crossed a median and hit a utility pole.

Police say a Dodge Neon was traveling north on Paper Mill Road in Newark early Friday when the driver lost control for an unknown reason. Police say the car went over the median, crossed the southbound lane and stopped when the passenger side hit a utility pole.

Police say the driver, a 23-year-old woman, and her passenger, a 22-year-old woman, were both pronounced dead on the scene. Their names are being withheld until their families are notified.

Police say the preliminary investigation has not uncovered any evidence of drug or alcohol use. They say neither woman was wearing a seat belt.
