Wildwood Markets to Millennials

Because summer doesn’t officially start until June 21, many consider Memorial Day weekend as the unofficial start of summer. And from its “Unlocking of the Ocean” ceremony, the unveiling of its Icon Mural Wall to the Wildwood Crest summer kickoff concert and finally the Wildwood Memorial Day ceremony, shore town Wildwood, N.J. has a lot on its plate.

But, for Wildwood, marketing has, in some ways, become a balancing act — a balance between keeping their core demographic (families) while also reaching out to millennials.

For Jack Morey, vice president of Morey’s Piers, it’s all about deciding how nostalgic to be versus how new to be.

"If we were just focusing on nostalgia, we would quickly run out of gas because, sooner or later, they won’t remember the past,” Morey said. “But if we tried too hard to go to too narrow a market like the millennials, we’re going to unintentionally block people out.”
