Large Fire Consumes Kensington Warehouse

Three-alarm blaze takes hours to control

A three-alarm warehouse fire took firefighters hours to get under control early Wednesday.

The fire broke out around 12:45 a.m. at B Street and E Indiana Avenue.

Flames shot out of the building as the fire spread to three alarms, according to Philadelphia firefighters.

Luckily no one was hurt.

By 3 a.m. firefighters had the fire under control but as of 5 a.m. they were still putting out visible flames. As of 7 a.m. firefighters continued to battle hot spots.

At no time did firefighters enter the building to battle the blaze due to safety concerns, according to authorities.

“They did a great job laying the line out making sure they got companies in place to protect exposures,” said Fire Commissioner Lloyd Ayers.

The warehouse once housed the Hua Feng beverage company but was abandoned at the time of the blaze.

There was no damage to any nearby homes.

Many area streets were closed as firefighters battled the blaze. (Click here to get the latest traffic in the area.)
