This week's profile is Max Kaplan from Chestnut Hill, Philadelphia. Philly fashion guru Sabir Peele tells us why Max is this week's "That Guy."
What I like about this look?
Max is rocking the perfect fall look. What makes his looks fall appropriate is his plaid shirt, heavy fabric, brown corduroy pants and knit tie. One of my favorite things about this look is his Oxford shoes. His shoes have a very vintage style to them. The vintage look always gives out character.
Where could this outfit be worn?
You could wear this outfit practically anywhere. A coffee shop, class, or throw on a navy blazer and go to dinner with friends. The loose tie and rolled up sleeve is ideal for a day of hitting the books.
Where can you buy this particular look?
The convenient thing about all of these pieces is that they are from J.Crew, which would make this a one stop shop. Max was fortunate enough to grab his wingtip Oxfords shoes at a thrift store years ago and ironically they are J.Crew as well. Corduroy and plaid have made a major resurgence into the menswear world over the past two years, so brands like Ralph Lauren, Banana Republic, and H&M carry a variety of styles and price points for both items respectively.
Style Tip?
When selecting a pair of corduroy pants make sure you find a pair with slimmer "Wales". Wales are the raised ridges that give the corduroy its texture. With a slimmer wale the fit of your pants will appear tailored and polished. Traditional corduroy is heavier and tends to make you look a lot bigger than you actually are. Take a risk with your corduroy pants this year and venture into other colors that are consistent with the fall, like burgundy, navy blue, and green. You can see that Max got the memo about adding a heavier weight knit tie with his look and opted out of the traditional silk ties. The fall and winter seasons call for knit, wool, and cashmere blend ties, to complement heavier fabric.
