5 People Struck in Separate Shootings During Violent Night in Philly

Five people, including a young boy, were struck in separate shootings during a violent night in Philadelphia.

The first shooting occurred at 4:54 p.m. on the 5200 block of Catherine Street in West Philadelphia. A 23-year-old man was struck once in the left shoulder. He was taken to Presbyterian Hospital where he is currently in stable condition.

The second incident occurred at 5:07 p.m. at a park on Chelten Avenue and Ardleigh Street in Germantown when an 8-year-old boy found a gun on the ground and accidentally shot himself in the foot. He was taken to Einstein Hospital where he is currently in stable condition.

The third shooting happened at 8:29 p.m. on the 3700 block of Palisades Drive in East Falls. A 27-year-old man was struck once in the back and once in the right elbow. He was taken to Temple University Hospital where he is currently in critical condition.

The fourth shooting happened outside a Water Ice shop on the 7400 block of Woodbine Avenue in Overbrook around 8:40 p.m. A 19-year-old man was struck once in the back of the head. Police say a fist fight earlier in the day may have led to the shooting. Police say the gunman shot the victim from behind as he was standing at the front counter with two of his friends. There was a large crowd at the shop at the time of the shooting.

"I was in the back taking care of some of the customers' orders," said Max Ito Jean, an employee at the shop. "I heard two gunshots. One of them I heard. The second one I actually saw. But I didn't see any faces or anything like that I just saw a lot of people just scatter around."

The victim was taken to Presbyterian Hospital where he is currently in critical condition.

Finally, a man was shot at least once in the face on West Somerset and North 21st streets around 9 p.m. in North Philadelphia. He was taken to the hospital. Officials have not yet revealed his condition.

No arrests have been made and no weapons have been recovered in any of the shootings. Police continue to investigate.
