Mom Falsely Reported Daughter Missing in Stolen SUV: Police

Authorities say a Bordentown woman falsely reported that her sport utility vehicle had been stolen with her young daughter still inside, a report that prompted an Amber Alert.

Karissa Peppers is accused of creating a false public alarm.

Authorities tell The Times of Trenton (http://bit.ly/1zaxr6W) that the 23-year-old Peppers told them she had left the SUV running with the keys inside while parked outside a Trenton liquor store. When she returned, the vehicle was gone.

She reported the theft around 8 p.m. Monday and said her 5-year-old daughter was in the SUV. But authorities say the child was never in the car, which was found abandoned later Monday night.

Authorities have not determined why Peppers reported the child was in the SUV.
