A developer has proposed a massive shopping complex in Sussex County.
The News Journal of Wilmington reports that the proposed Overbrook Town Center would include 850,000 feet of leasable floor space. That's more than four and a half Wal-Mart stores. It would also be larger than all three of the Tanger Outlets properties near Rehoboth Beach combined.
Developers have submitted plans to the county seeking a zoning change that would allow the project. The county council could approve it after public hearings in October and December.
The developer and Department of Transportation planners agree that the project would require an overpass to be built over Delaware Route One. DelDOT records indicate construction on the shopping center wouldn't likely to be finished until at least 2020.
