In a Matter of Minutes Gas Jumps 17 Cents

17 cents more.

That’s what motorists were paying on the Garden State Parkway Friday morning after gas prices jumped to $3.25 in a matter of minutes.

The Sunoco station on one of Jersey’s most traveled roads, like the rest of the gas stations along the GSP and New Jersey Turnpike, is only allowed to hike prices once a week based off a survey of gas prices around the state, according to officials.

Gasoline around the country has jumped in recent weeks amidst unrest in the Middle East.

Gas in the Garden State is still 10 to 20 cents less than it is in Pennsylvania or New Jersey because of lower gas taxes.

Even though gas in South Jersey might not be as high as places like Philadelphia, New York or Los Angeles that doesn’t mean drivers aren’t feeling the pain at the pump.

“It has been a very difficult experience on everyone around me in terms of filling up gas,” said Peter Abdullah of Willingboro. “Between the two cars, I'm spending about 100 dollars.”
