Police Find Bullets, Explosives, Chemicals at Delaware County Home

Police found munitions and chemicals at a Delaware County home Monday afternoon.

Police responded to a report of hoarding at a home on Marlyn Circle in Radnor Township around 2:20 p.m.

"The smell was just a horrible odor that led us to a [scene] that is similar to what you'd see with a dead body," said Radnor Township Manager Bob Zienkowski.

When police arrived they discovered munitions inside including ammunition and possible C-4 explosives, according to officials. Police then called the Bomb Squad.

Police also found stainless steel containers with unknown chemicals in the backyard of the home.

"We believe there are hazardous materials that are buried in the yard," said Radnor Township Police Commissioner Bill Colarulo.

Both a Hazmat team and the 80-year-old homeowner, who police say is a firearms dealer, were called to the house. The homeowner, who has not been identified, told NBC10 the entire ordeal was much ado about nothing.

"A waste of money," he said. "They should be doing things where they're catching people doing something. This is nonsense."

Police took custody of a gun and a knife the homeowner was carrying. He has not been charged however.

"Messy is not unsafe," the homeowner said. "Messy does not explode. Messy is just messy."

Police told NBC10 they found other munitions that they're trying to identify. They continue to investigate.
