First Look: New Century 21 Store on East Market

Shoppers are already flooding the new Century 21 department store in Philadelphia even though it doesn't officially open until next week.

Those who signed up to the retailer's loyalty shopping program were able to get a sneak peek at the 96,000-square-foot store in the former Strawbridge's at 8th and Market streets in Philadelphia. Many were leaving with large, red bags full of merchandise as the retailer rang up its first sales.

Century 21, a New York company, has designed the Philadelphia store to create a luxury experience for shoppers who are seeking deep discounts on high fashion. It also laid out the two-story space with extra wide isles to allow free movement of shoppers, especially those Millennial Moms who come into the store to shop while strolling their children around.
